Silke Spiesshoefer

Clinical Assistant Professor

Silke Spiesshoefer graduated with a Ph.D. in Microelectronics-Photonics (2005), a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering (2001), and a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering (1998) from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. She also holds a Masters in Business Administration from Webster University (2008) in St. Louis, Missouri. Silke has been affiliated with HiDEC since 1996, first as an undergraduate student intern, graduate student, and then post doc. She has recently become an Adjunct Professor with the center.

Silke is currently the Technical Research Director for the Advanced Technologies Division (ATD) of Engineering Systems Solutions (ESS), headquartered in Frederick, MD. She is directly responsible for the initial creation and management of the ATD of ESS and creating new development projects/products including the development of nanomaterial based product and process development for advanced batteries, antennae, and novel sensor technologies. This includes material analysis and selection as well as process chain development in addition to creating and assisting in business proposal development tasks, business plans, project planning, forecasting, and budgeting. She is also the COO and Research Director for a small technology start-up, Evoltech Systems Solutions, based in Fayetteville, AR.

She has more than ten years of research and development experience in the microelectronic, wafer-level fabrication and materials areas. She has led various research and development projects involving microelectronic fabrication and advanced material development, with the most recent projects involving the process development and characterization of via structures in silicon for advanced 3D VLSI systems and nanomaterial-based electrodes for battery enhancement. She has given numerous national and international presentations on her research and has over 30 publications. Dr. Spiesshoefer also has extensive experience in technical marketing and program management.
